Not only the people of Sambalpur, any devotees from the world when they pray from their heart and holy minds, Maa grant every wish. It is said that if the goddess is pleased, the barren woman gains a son. Hundreds of patients are cured of various illnesses by doing Osha and Brat for maa Samlei. Devotees worship on the Maa’s pedestal before doing all the good deeds. The legend of Mother Goddess giving the devotees good luck is widely mentioned. Every day, a large number of devotees from all over India come to her shrine after their wish-fulfillment to worship.
Maa Samlei Temple in Sambalpur is situated near the Mahanadi river, west side of the city. Each year many festivals are celebrated here. Nuakhai festival is also of great importance, this is a great festival all over western Odisha. The festival has created deep faith and spiritual awareness of the goddess. The new rice is first offered to the mother and then eaten by others. Nuakhai Bhetghat is held at the Devi Peeth in the afternoon of the festival. There is a large crowd and a variety of dances, songs, and cultural programs are held at the venue. Like the Nuakhai festival, the Mahalaya festival is a great spiritual festival of the Goddess. On the day of Ashwin Amavasya (Mahalaya), the mother goddess is adorned in the guise of 'Shubhangi'. Some people call this appearance as "Dhabalamukhi". Thousands of devotees from all over the world come here in advance to pay their respects.
